The Alsek River is a wilderness river flowing from the Yukon into Northern British Columbia and into Alaska.[1] The surrounding area from the Western edge of the Alsek to East of the East Alsek is known to locals as Dry Bay.

It starts at the confluence of the Dezadeash and Kaskawulsh rivers in Kluane National Park and Reserve. After flowing south into the northwestern tip of British Columbia, it is joined by the Tatshenshini River in Tatshenshini-Alsek Park. It reaches the Pacific Ocean at Dry Bay, in the Gulf of Alaska, south of Yakutat, Alaska close to the northern end of the Alaska Panhandle. Although the river is navigable by kayak or rubber raft in its northern reaches, it rapidly becomes unnavigable—for any but the most experienced and skilled kayakers—at Turnback Canyon.

On older maps, the Alsek river is labeled as the Tatshenshini and vice versa. Some Yukon First Nation elders also refer to the river as the Tatshenshini.

The river flows next to the Lowell glacier which blocked off the river from 1725 to 1850 and created a large lake behind it. When the glacier broke in 1850, it created a massive flood, washing away everything in its path on the way to the Pacific.

The river carries a lot of silt from the Alsek lake/glacier, which contributes to the rivers low temperature.

The Alsek and nearby East Alsek rivers were at one time connected, and the old river bed can still be made out on some maps.

The Alsek glacier contacts the Grand Plateau glacier, which faces the shoreline. Also in the same general area are the Doame foothills and Doame River.

A promising outlook
The total absence of growth in Euroland in Q4 09 and the simultaneous decline in German industrial production has led many observers to fear that Euroland will not only be the laggard in this recovery, but that Euroland growth could even double-dip. The crisis in Greece, structural imbalances in other countries and a strong euro have further fuelled concerns about the strength of Euroland’s recovery.

However, the forward-looking indicators that we usually pay most attention to in our short-term analysis signal a much more promising outlook. They also signal that growth differences within Euroland will be pronounced in the future. German growth prospects are particularly promising while several peripheral countries are facing low growth and we expect Greece to remain in recession for at least another year.

Germany takes the lead
German manufacturing PMI has increased for 14 consecutive months and jumped to 60.2 in March. This is the highest level since the peak reached in April 2000 and signals a very strong recovery in German industrial production. German manufacturing PMI new orders reached 65.2 in March – an all-time high. New export orders also hit an all-time high.

But can we really trust the upbeat German PMI readings? After all, German industrial production declined in Q4 09 despite manufacturing PMI climbing above 50 in October 2009. Part of the explanation for this is that the German car scrappage scheme ended in early September 2009 and as a result German car production declined and temporarily pulled down industrial production. This sector-specific slump was not fully captured by PMI, which can partly be explained by the fact that the car industry temporarily accounted for an unusually large share of total industrial production due to the car scrappage scheme. As the decline in car production comes to an end, German industrial production is projected to show growth better aligned with the very upbeat PMI reading.

The promising outlook is confirmed by the Ifo expectations index, which has risen for 15 consecutive months and now stands at the highest level since June 2006. Our Ifo model points to even further increases. The Ifo sub-indices for expectations with regard to production activity in the next three months are particularly upbeat. Production activity expectations are very close to being at an all-time high.

The word cathedral is derived from the Latin word cathedra (“seat” or “chair”), and refers to the presence of the bishop’s or archbishop’s chair or throne. In the ancient world, the chair was the symbol of a teacher and thus of the bishop’s role as teacher, and also of an official presiding as a magistrate and thus of the bishop’s role in governing a diocese.

Though now grammatically used as a noun, the term cathedral was originally the adjective in the phrase “cathedral church”, from the Latin ecclesia cathedralis. The seat marks the place set aside in the prominent church of the diocese for the head of that diocese and is therefore a major symbol of authority.

The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter (Latin: Basilica Sancti Petri), officially known in Italian as the Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano and commonly known as St. Peter’s Basilica, is located within the Vatican City. St. Peter’s Basilica has the largest interior of any Christian church in the world, holding 60,000 people.It is the symbolic “Mother church” of the Catholic Church and is regarded as one of the holiest Christian sites. The obelisk, known as “The Witness”, at 25.5 metres (84 ft) and a total height, including base and the cross on top, of 40 metres (130 ft), is the second largest standing obelisk, and the only one to remain standing since its removal from Egypt and re-erection at the Circus of Nero in 37 AD, where it is thought to have stood witness to the crucifixion of St Peter.^[32] Its removal to its present location by order of Pope Sixtus V and engineered by Domenico Fontana on September 28, 1586, was an operation fraught with difficulties and nearly ending in disaster when the ropes holding the obelisk began to smoke from the friction. Fortunately this problem was noticed by a sailor, and for his swift intervention, his village was granted the privilege of providing the palms that are used at the basilica each Palm Sunday.

Notre Dame de Paris was among the first buildings in the world to use the flying buttress (arched exterior supports). In response, the cathedral’s architects built supports around the outside walls, and later additions continued the pattern.

Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal, (French: Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal), is a Roman Catholicbasilica on the northern slope of Mount Royal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

In 1904, Blessed André Bessette, CSC, began the construction of a small chapel on the side of the mountain near Notre Dame College. Soon the growing number of visitors made it too small. Even though it was enlarged, a larger church was needed and in 1917 one was completed – it is called the Crypt, and has a seating capacity of 1,000. In 1924, the construction of the basilica was inaugurated; it was finally completed in 1967. The Oratory’s dome is the third-largest of its kind in the world after the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro in the Ivory Coast and Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and the church is the largest in Canada.

The basilica is dedicated to Saint Joseph, to whom Brother André credited all his reported miracles. These were mostly related to some kind of healing power, and many pilgrims (handicapped, blind, ill, etc.) poured into his Basilica, including numerous Protestants. On display in the basilica is a wall covered with thousands of crutches from those who came to the basilica and were healed. Pope John Paul II deemed the miracles to be authentic and beatified Brother André in 1982.

The Guadalajara Cathedral or Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady (Spanish: La Catedral de Guadalajara or Catedral de la Asunción de María Santísima), located in Guadalajara, Jalisco-Mexico, is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara and a minor basilica. It is built in the Renaissance style, with neo-gothic towers.

The first cathedral was built in 1541 on the site of the present Templo de Santa Maria de Gracia. This primitive church was built with adobe and a thatched roof. On May 30, 1574, during Mass, neighbors fired shots into the air. Some of these fell onto the church and caught fire, severely damaging the church. Work began on a new cathedral designed by master architect Martin Casillas, but progressed slowly because of scarce funds. The new cathedral was completed in February 1618. Finally in April of that year, the blessed sacrament was moved from the former church to the new one. In 1818, an earthquake shook the city, causing the towers and the dome to collapse. The company is called Rotel Tours (the word is a portmanteau of “rolling” and “hotel”) and it has, unbelieveably, been hosting bus-bed tours of Europe, Asia, and Africa since 1959. It was founded in 1945 by a man named — we are not making this up — George Hötel. His firm’s buses cater almost exclusively to German tourists; in the past fifty years, they have done everything from crossing the Sahara desert to traversing Mongolia and Vietnam.
Cool, but we can’t stop thinking about the shower thing. According to the never-wrong Internet, the buses make “occasional stops” at RV parks and campgrounds for the “express purpose of bathing.” Yummy. Smells like… German spirit?

In 1940s and 1950s, right after the World War 2 Russia had to recover from the consequences of the Nazi invasion. Lots had to be done and as we know to complete something you need to have enough energy. And energy at that times as well as it is much likely now meant oil.

At that times the known oil reserves differed from what people in Russia know about it now. The main places to drill for oil was Southern Russia on contrary to frozen Northern Siberian regions as it’s for now. And the gemstone of the Soviet Oil production was Caspian sea region, mainly the territories that are an independent state of Aizerbajan now.

So after a massive attack of oil thirsty state the lands of this previously oil-saturated region little by little got exhausted of the black mineral treasure and the need for new sources of it arouse. Now it’s not clear who was that this genius who first came up with an idea of getting the oil right from the sea bottom where it was still plenty of it and for this purpose to build a real city 42 km (25 miles) off the coast right in the middle of the sea, but what we know is that this idea came into play and by some crazy chance it got support from that times Soviet leaders who leveraged it with the all support the biggest (by the territory) state could offer at that time. What this meant is that in a matter of just a few month a real town was built right in the middle of the nowhere on giant steel blocks coming from the sea bottom, from as deep as hundreds of feet down. And they called it “Oil Stones”.

And that was really a city! Just one fact: the length of the streets of this one-of-a-kind town was exceeding 350 km (200 miles) if combined. There were nine stored buildings, schools, industry complexes and fountains. Lawns with green grass and children playing ball. And all that is forty two kilometeres from the nearest Earth surface close!

As Soviet Union was keeping its achievements behind the iron curtain less was known to the rest of the world about such engineering wonder being built. Later, the new Northern reserves of oil were discovered which exceeded hundred times the ones they had in Caspian Sea region so the Soviet oil production industry giant moved away from that place, making it semi abandoned. But even now this place according to what has been said has more than the 2,000 inhabitants. A true example of what human is capable of achieving, maybe one of the biggest man made structures on Earth and how small we sometimes know on such places around the world.

The Baikal Lake

On the results of the latest nanotechnology research, Reed said, “The real achievement here was demonstrating this with blood, which was a longstanding goal. It could not be done before because blood has too much salt and other stuff in it, which prevents this type of sensing. These antigens built up on the chip, allowing for 10 percent accuracy of detection at an extremely small concentration of picograms per milliliter, which is equivalent to detecting the concentration of a single grain of salt in a large swimming pool.

The newly developed device can also be used to detect a broad range of other biomarkers for conditions such as ovarian cancer, and even cardiovascular disease. All the targeted biomarkers can be searched out at the same time, in just one simple test. In addition, there is a significant cost advantage in the production of the device. One never knows when he would find a pack of the old photos, whether it would be a dump or even his own apartments. Such masterpieces of anonymous photographers illuminate us about how it was in the old times and so we can compare it with what we have nowadays and make some conclusions for ourselves.

Every one of you surely knows that the times they are a-changing. And it is truly enough as we can conclude from these photos. Two places and therefore two different sides of society are depictured on these shots. Sleep apnea is a breathing disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. These short stops in breathing usually lasts for 10 to 30 seconds and can happen up to 400 times every night. Men, people who are overweight or over the age of 40 are more likely to have sleep apnea, but it can affect anyone at any age, even children. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a common type of apnea in children, is caused by an obstruction of the airway, such as enlarged tonsils and adenoids. This is most likely to happen during sleep because that’s when the soft tissue at the back of throat is most relaxed. Children who have OSA nearly always snore, may have difficulty breathing during sleep, and may be restless during sleep and wake up often. Symptoms of OSA tend to appear in the first few years of life, but the disorder often remains undiagnosed until many years later.

Once a doctor completes an evaluation and makes a diagnosis, most cases of OSA can be treated or managed with surgery, medications and monitoring devices. Generally, a polysomnagram or overnight sleep study is used to confirm obstructive sleep apnea. It charts the child’s brain waves, heartbeat, and breathing during sleep. European markets advance after upbeat earnings; Pound collapses on GDP contraction

European markets are going through gains on Friday as an string of upbeat corporate earnings report has buoyed investors' sentiment. In Forex markets the Pound has collapsed after an unexpected contraction in UK GDP.

In the United States each state typically has a statute creating an administrative agency. These state agencies are typically called the Department of Insurance, or some similar name, and the head official is the Insurance Commissioner, or a similar titled officer. The agency then creates a group of administrative regulations to govern insurance companies which are domiciled in, or do business in the state.
The origins of insurance policies in general differs through various countries. Limited policies (particularly against damage to homes) can be traced to the 17th and 18th centuries, though establishment of newer policies (such as health insurance and car insurance) did not come until the 20th century.
In the United States regulation of insurance companies is almost exclusively conducted by the several states and their insurance departments. Various states have different names for their regulatory agencies and regulators. In many states the department is called the Department of Insurance, and the regulator is called the Insurance Commissioner - although there are numerous variations. The federal government has explicitly exempted insurance from federal regulation in most cases.
However, regulation of the insurance industry began in the 1940s in the United States, through several United States Supreme Court rulings. USD/JPY recovery from 88.00 low on Wednesday was halted at 89.40, and the Dollar returned to levels right above 88.00. During European session, the pair has been moving between 88.15 and 88.40.

Yesterday's drop stopped with great accuracy at what we called "the most important support" 89.31 (yesterday's low was 89.34). And today, 90.20 will still be the most important resistance. If the dollar fails to break it, this pair will go back to falling, after that sharp bounce from 88.22. But, a break of 90.20 would give a chance to approach 91 since the first important resistance in these areas 90.90.
Euro / Dollar Technical Forex Analysis for Forex Traders :-

The Euro is testing at this very moment the short-term support 1.4563, after dropping hard in the last half hour. This support is the last barrier before testing Fibonacci 50% which is at 1.4509. Short
-term resistance is 1.4622, and breaking it would give another attempt to reach 1.47 (after yesterday's attempt).
If 1.4563 is broken, then the falling correction will try to reach Fibonacci 50% support at 1.4509, or Fibonacci 61.8% at 1.4430. In this case, this support in particular will become the most important support for the medium term, since breaking it would mean that this drop is more than just a correction, and that the uptrend which started at 1.4176 is already over.

Commodities sidelined to a tad lower :-

Plenty of FX volatility: Canadian dollar, Mexican peso and Sterling the weakest, South Korean won, Kiwi and Norway the strongest. As well as banking jitters, comments from the Bank of England’s Mervyn King that sterling weakness would help to rebalance the economy away from (nasty) financial services and help exports (what? Vauxhall cars?) pushed Cable down to $1.5917 and EUR/GBP £0.9193 (highest since April fool’s day). The US dollar was fairly weak too, taking the Euro up to $1.4845, the Yen to 89.96 and the Swiss franc to 1.0170 (best since July 2008). Short-dated yields dipped, allowing many money market futures contracts to post new all-time highs, the lowest being one-month US TBills at 0.02%, three-months at 0.09%. Major yield curves flattened slightly, longer-dated Treasury yields dropping further because they are not constrained by the zero level. Equity indices gave up half or all of last week’s gains, Mexico, Hong Kong and Shanghai down 4.5% and the hardest hit. Commodities sidelined to a tad lower.

The FT reports that US syndicated loan losses rose to $53 billion so far in 2009, greater than the cumulative losses since 2001, according to the Shared National Credit Program, a body set up in 1977 to monitor loans over $20 million from federally regulated institutions - banks and the shadow banking system. Quality has deteriorated badly, because of poor underwriting as well as weak economic conditions, so that 11.5% of bank loans and 33% of quasi-banks’ advances are now bad debts. Hedge and pension funds, securitisation vehicles and their ilk are hanging on to 47% of problem loans while accounting for just 21% of lending. Assets rated as ‘special mention’, ‘substandard’, ‘doubtful’ and ‘loss’ (the four categories of fragile loans) of this $2.9 trillion market stands at $642 billion or 23% of the portfolio, almost double last year’s 13%.

European markets, advance ahead of Fed; Euro and Pound remain strong :-

European markets are going through moderate advances on Wednesday, fuelled by higher prices on basic resources which have been favoured by a weaker Dollar and higher commodity prices. Euro and Pound remain trading at high levels after two-days rally.

Eurostoxx 50 Index adds 0.5%, while German DAX Index rises 0.45%, and the French CAC Index advances 0.35%. In the UK, the FTSE Index rises 0.4% in the first hours of trading.

On teh macroeconomic front, the Bank of England has released the minutes of September's meeting with no mention of discussions over the deposit rate cut, while the decisions to hold rates at 0.5% and to maintain its bond buying plan at GBP175 billion were approved unanimously.

Pound And Euro remain at high levels

EUR/USD has eased somewhat after rally from 1.4610 low on Monday hit a fresh 2009 high at 1.4843 during Asian session, and the Euro has dipped below 1.4800 although it remains above session low at 1.4785.

GBP/USD pulled down from 1.6400 to 1.6330 intra-day low ahead of the BoE minutes although the pair bounced past 1.6400 to reach intra-day high at 1.6430 area at the moment of writing.

USD/JPY decline from 92.55 high on September 21 found support at 90.50 low on Asian session, and the Dollr has tried to build up recovery from 90.70, although the pair remains capped at the 91.00 area.

Euro Climbs on Growing Optimism

The euro climbed versus a number of currencies in the start of this week as investors’ confidence rose in the region, providing support for speculations regarding the end of the recession in the countries using the European common currency.
This week started with pending to the side of risk appetite continuing market trends perceived in the end of last week, when the euro climbed fueled by renewed attractiveness as countries like Germany indicate significant positive economic improvements, suggesting that the recession may end sooner than expected in the Eurozone.
